Our philosophy in the Star Lab is that "Every Student Can Shine." Our goal is to help close the gaps in the student's foundation so they are able to make progress and continue to grow in their education. We know that children do not all learn the same way or at the same rate.
I graduated from Burnet High School. Then I went on to Texas State University and received my Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a specialization in Reading. I have always been intrigued by how students learn and how they are so different. When I was a classroom teacher, I observed my students to see if I could find the key to helping them be successful learners. This passion led me to the interventionist position in the Star Lab. I love seeing their eyes glow when things click into place and they feel that success.
"Everyone is a star and deserves the right to Twinkle." This quote is why I teach in the Star Lab.
"Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a Fire." William Butler Yates. This quote sums up the reason why I teach in the Star Lab.
The goal for Burnet CISD is to have all students reading on grade level by the year 2020.
In order to accomplish this goal, we need your help. Parents please ready with your child/children every night - 15 minutes = 1 step and 30 minutes = 2 steps. For every 100 steps you child completes at Shady Grove Elementary, they will receive a medal and new folder.
We also need volunteers that have as little as 15 minutes to come and read with our students to help them accomplish this goal. If you can volunteer at a campus, just call the school office and let them know. Shady Grove Elementary's phone number is 512-756-2126.
Thank you and Happy Reading!
