MLK Day of Service

January 17, 2022 was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and for BCISD students, it was also a school day! The district's goal was for students to learn about the contributions and sacrifices of Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in service projects on their campus and around the community. Shady Grove Elementary's students served the community in many ways...

Our Pre-K classes served the elderly of the community by traveling to Country Oaks Assisted Living and the Pafford Place! They brought some cards, sang their ABCs, and left off by singing “You are My Sunshine!”

Our kindergarten students put together some snacks for our local police and fire departments. They then traveled to the station to personally deliver them to Burnet’s first responders!

First graders mixed together various treats for our local healthcare workers. They traveled to Seton Highland Lakes Hospital to personally deliver the fruits of their labor!

Second graders served our community by cleaning up the YMCA playground, fields and walking paths! These students filled over 10 large trash bags!

"Everybody can be great ... because anybody can serve.” MLK Jr.
