Principal's Message

Dear Shady Grove Families,

In August of 1988, I walked through the doors of Burnet Elementary as an eager kindergartner. Mrs. McDaniel, my kindergarten teacher, was sitting by the entrance to her classroom, greeting her students as they arrived. My excitement quickly turned to tears as I realized my parents were leaving me, and to this day, I remember Mrs. McDaniel’s arms wrapping me up in a giant hug. In first grade, I remember Mrs. Kneese had a fascinating fish tank. One day I couldn’t resist the urge any longer, and I stuck my hand in to try to touch one of the fish. Of course, Mrs. Kneese saw me do it, and I just knew I was in trouble. Instead, she patiently reminded me to “look with my eyes, not with my hands.” It was in second grade that Mrs. Taylor captivated me by reading the class our first chapter book, Sarah, Plain and Tall. Mrs. Harris was the principal of Burnet Elementary at that time, and she was so fancy that even the buttons on her calculator were sparkly gems!  Many and cherished are my memories as a Burnet CISD student, and I take pride in being a 2001 BHS graduate!  

As campus principal of Shady Grove Elementary, it is my goal for all students to reach their potential through quality instruction, rigorous academic expectations, and engaging classroom experiences. Additionally, it is also my goal for every Shady Grove student to grow up with fond memories of caring, compassionate, patient teachers who encouraged a love of learning. 

We are all extremely excited about the upcoming school year! I encourage you to get involved by taking an active role in your child's education, reinforcing new skills at home, reading with your child nightly, staying in communication with your child's teacher, joining our PTO, and volunteering at school activities. Your time is the best gift you can give your child. We look forward to the opportunity to partner with you!
